Safety tips and recommendations for Nosara
As any popular tourist town, there has always been crime and petty theft. Education is key to prevention. Be aware some of the most targeted items are laptops, tablets, phones, cash, cameras and credit cards.
Please keep in mind these general security tips for a safer environment:
- Always lock your car and never leave valuables inside the car.
- While at the beach, we recommend you not to take any valuables with you and don’t leave them unattended, especially if you go for a swim.

Nosara is a surf beach so be aware of rip currents and understand the waves. Do not get too confident while swimming if you are not experienced with ocean swimming.
- When you leave your rental property, follow all the security features in the house like; setting the alarm, lock every door, locking your valuables in the safe, etc.
- Travel in groups: Whenever possible, travel in groups, as there's safety in numbers.
- Notify others of your plans: Inform someone trustworthy about your travel plans and itinerary.
- Data shows the majority of home break-ins occur between 5-9pm, sunset and dinner hours. Be sure to follow all security guidance for the house and avoid hiding the keys in obvious places. Be cautious with strangers: Avoid telling someone you just met, even if they seem super friendly, where you are staying.
- Do not give anyone new your lock code.
- Use reliable transportation: Use licensed taxis or reputable car rental services and tuk-tuks. Avoid accepting rides from strangers.
- Avoid dark and isolated areas: Stick to well-lit and busy areas, especially at night. Avoid walking alone at night.
